MEC Hlomuka Visits uThukela Schools to Assess Readiness for Final Exams

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education, Mr. Sipho Hlomuka, has embarked on oversight visits to schools in the uThukela District to monitor their functionality and preparedness ahead of the Final Examinations, including the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams.

The MEC, joined by senior departmental officials, visited Bhevu High School, where he received reports from the Principal and the School Governing Body (SGB). The discussions focused on the functionality of the School Management Team and governance structures that play a key role in creating a supportive teaching and learning environment.

Hlomuka expressed satisfaction with the overall functionality of the school and commended the Principal and teachers for their dedication and professionalism despite challenges. He also welcomed the school’s commitment to achieving a 100% Matric pass rate this year.

The MEC directed the Department to urgently address challenges raised during the meetings, giving the district strict timelines to fill funded vacancies, particularly in critical subjects such as Mathematics and Science. Hlomuka will continue his oversight programme by visiting Mpumelelo Technical High School and Meadowsweet Combined School to assess their readiness as well.
