The KwaZulu-Natal’s tourism industry has received a major boost as the province officially launched Tourism and Heritage Month celebrations. MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Reverend Musa Zondi, used the occasion to urge both local and international visitors to explore KZN’s unique destinations.

Speaking at the launch event held at Indoni Yamanzi Bar & Grill in uMhlathuze, Zondi described KZN as an “untapped sleeping giant” rich with experiences that can “captivate and delight” travellers in every district.

He highlighted the sector’s importance in stimulating economic growth and job creation, noting that tourism remains one of the key drivers of development in both the province and South Africa as a whole.

September is celebrated nationally as Tourism and Heritage Month, a time dedicated to showcasing the country’s cultural heritage and positioning South Africa as a leading global destination.

The event drew high-profile guests, including King Cetshwayo District Mayor, Councillor Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, KZN Tourism and Film Authority Board Chairperson, Dr Sibusiso Ndebele, as well as representatives from the Zulu Royal Family and the Mkhwanazi Tribal Council. Their presence underscored the strong collaboration between government, industry, and traditional leadership in advancing the tourism sector.

The choice of Indoni Yamanzi Bar & Grill as the launch venue was deliberate, signalling government’s commitment to promoting local establishments and hidden gems that reflect the province’s diverse cultural and tourism landscape.

With its blend of heritage, natural beauty, and adventure, KZN continues to position itself as a must-visit destination.
